FINDING MY VOICE - A Documentary by Eric Espino

Thank you for taking the time to watch Finding My Voice. This short documentary highlights the powerful impact of My Voice Theatre (MVT), an issues-based youth theater company founded in 1996 in Bushwick, Brooklyn.

MVT has empowered countless young people through performance, sharing their voices with local communities, government officials, and even international audiences. The company’s work has been featured in courts, community centers, festivals, and on television—locally and abroad.

As a former member in the early 2000s, MVT profoundly shaped my path. Years later, a conversation with founder Francis Blacklock—an Irish LGBTQI+ artist—sparked the idea to document its legacy. With the 25th anniversary as our backdrop, eight alumni returned to share how MVT helped shape their lives.

I’m proud to share their stories with you. I hope this film inspires as much as the company itself has inspired all of us.
